Are dental implants right for me? The ideal candidate for dental implants is someone in good general and oral health. As adequate bone in the jaw
is needed to support a dental implant, the best candidates have healthy gum tissue that is free of periodontal disease. Dental implants are closely connected with the gum tissues and underlying bone in the mouth. Therefore, prior to proceeding with dental implants, Dr. Thompson and his team will carefully evaluate your overall oral health. An assessment will also be made to determine whether you will require bone grafting. A key to implant success is the quantity and quality of the bone where the implant is to be placed.
The upper back jaw has traditionally been one of the most difficult areas to successfully place dental implants due to insufficient bone quantity. When there is insufficent bone in either the upper or lower jaw, bone or bone substitute is used to build up the jaw. This process is called bone grafting. Bone grafting has been shown to greatly improve the chances for a successful implant that can last for years to come. If you're interested in finding out whether you're a suitable candidate for dental implants, we invite you to book your complimentary implant consultation at which time we'd be pleased to answer all of your questions! | ||||||||||
