Whether it’s your child’s visit first to our Calgary dentist office or whether they are a returning patient, we do everything we can to ensure your child’s visit is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Read more below about our commitment to ensuring your child has a positive dental experience at our Calgary dentist office.

ENSURING A POSITIVE
DENTAL EXPERIENCE

We're your partners in your child's oral health.

Our Calgary dentist always encourages parents to stay with their child for their entire dental visit and ask as many questions as necessary to ensure you feel confident and comfortable that your child is in great hands.

We'd love to meet you and your kids.

We offer complimentary "meet and greet" appointments where you and your child can meet our Calgary dentist, Dr. Dirk Thompson, and our dental team, so your child can become familiar and comfortable with our dental office and team prior to the actual treatment day.

We love to gently educate.

Our Calgary dentist and dedicated dental hygienists will take the time to explain our dental procedures to both you and your child (as may be age appropriate, of course) and gently educate your child about the importance of caring for their oral health. We also provide the cutest toothbrushing charts for your younger children to take home with them.

We emphasize prevention.

As with our adult patients, our dental team focuses on all aspects of preventative dentistry for your children, including dental sealants where appropriate, regular dental check-ups with our Calgary dentist, regular dental cleanings and home oral care education and tips.

We're here for your child's dental emergency.

Bumps and falls happen, especially with children. If your child needs an emergency Calgary dentist, we always strive to accommodate dental emergencies as quickly as possible on the day of the accident. Our Calgary dentist also has availability for Calgary emergency dentist appointments after our regular business hours. If your child has experienced a dental emergency, don't hesitate, call us now.

WE'RE SERIOUS ABOUT
HAPPY, HEALTHY KIDS.

We know that a negative experience at a dental office as a child can have a negative effect on their willingness to go to the dentist, even as an adult. We also know that making kids as comfortable as possible at their dental visit can go a long way in making them excited to participate in their oral health care.

Here are some of our little extras we know will make your little one smile at their next dental visit with our Calgary dentist:

the best toy box ever

mini teddy bears for anxious kiddos to cuddle then take home

TVs on the ceiling in every dental operatory (with parent-approved programming, of course)

complimentary toothbrushes and toothpaste with kid approved flavours - bubblegum anyone?

warm, cozy blankets

the cutest complimentary toothbrushing charts to encourage your little one to brush and floss

early morning and evening dental appointments to accommodate school (sorry, kids)

cute squeezie balls to help alleviate anxiety

Baby's First Dental Appointment

A common misconception is that because children lose their primary teeth, they do not need to see our Calgary dentist until their permanent teeth erupt. This could not be further from the truth. Bringing your baby for their first dental appointment as recommended by the Canadian Dental Association can help address smaller issues before they become larger, more complicated ones that require more extensive and expensive intervention.

Find out more information below about when to take your child to our Calgary dentist for their first dental appointment and why taking your child to the dentist as recommended by the Canadian Dental Association is so important.

QUESTION

When should your child's first dental visit be with our Calgary dentist? (Hint: It's sooner than you may think)

ANSWER

Your child's first dental appointment with our Calgary dentist should be within six months of their first tooth eruption or by one year of age, whichever is earlier.
Children's Dental Cleaning

By ensuring that your child sees our Calgary dentist at an early age, we can detect and address potential dental issues that are commonly seen in children, including the following:

early caries (cavities)

gum issues (infections)

excessive thumb sucking

orthodontic issues

early tooth loss

dental fluorosis (white spots on teeth)

Things To Think About

Tooth Decay is Common

but also very preventable

Tooth decay in children under the age of 6 years is the most common chronic illness in Canada and around the world (Canada.ca). Untreated cavities can not only cause your child to suffer from preventable pain and/or infection, but can also adversely affect their sleep, school attendance and their speech development.

Baby Teeth Are Important

care for them like adult teeth

Your child’s baby teeth have an important role to play in your child’s overall development. Not only do your child’s baby teeth help them to eat a balanced diet and speak properly, they also save a place for their adult teeth to grow in and give your child the confidence to smile, laugh and speak.

How Much Toothpaste?

a little dab will do ya

For babies aged 0-3 years, always ask our Calgary dentist whether a toothpaste with fluoride is recommended based on your child’s risk factors. For children ages 3-6, use only a pea sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste and ensure your child is supervised and spits it out after brushing to avoid dental fluorosis (white spots on teeth).

Let's Keep Your Child's Smile Healthy and Happy.
